Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (to brown)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Brown the Butter

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 2: Mix the Sugars

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat with an electric mixer until well combined.

Step 3: Add the Eggs and Vanilla

  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Step 4: Combine the Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Step 5: Chill the Dough

  • Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to an hour to help the cookies hold their shape while baking.

Step 6: Prepare the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating

  • In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating.

Step 7: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 8: Shape the Cookies

  • Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the dough and roll each piece into a ball. Roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.

Step 9: Bake the Cookies

  • Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers look set. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
