For the Main Dish:

  • 1 loaf of French bread or Italian bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (or a mix of oregano, basil, and thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Spread the Mixture

  • Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.

Add the Cheese

  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese generously over the buttered bread.

Bake the Bread

  • Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Broil for Extra Crispiness

  • For an extra crispy top, switch the oven to broil and broil the bread for an additional 1-2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before slicing into pieces and serving warm.
