Ingredients

Scale

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 12 jalapeños, finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
  • ¾ cup whole milk or buttermilk

For the Topping

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Add Butter: Cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Cheese and Jalapeños: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped jalapeños.
  5. Add Milk: Pour in the milk and mix gently until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.

Shape and Bake the Biscuits

  1. Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  2. Cut the Biscuits: Use a biscuit cutter or a floured glass to cut out circles and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown.

Finish with Topping

  1. Brush with Butter: Combine the melted butter and garlic powder, then brush it over the warm biscuits.
  2. Add Parsley: Sprinkle fresh parsley on top for a festive touch, if desired.

Serve and Enjoy

Serve the biscuits warm with your favorite holiday meal, spread with butter, or dipped in a hearty soup.
