Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For Cinnamon Sugar Coating (Optional)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Make the Cookie Dough

  1. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add Egg and Vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Form the Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour, one tablespoon at a time.

Shape the Bears

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Shape the Bears: Take small portions of dough and roll them into balls for the body, heads, and limbs. Assemble them on the baking sheet to form bear shapes. Use a toothpick or fork to create eyes and nose details.
  3. Optional Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the coating. Roll each bear in the cinnamon sugar mixture before placing it on the baking sheet.

Bake the Cookies

  1. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve

  1. Enjoy: Serve Cinnamon Bear Cookies at room temperature.
  2. Store: Keep in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
