Ingredients

Scale

Gather these ingredients to make your Creamy Garlic Penne Pasta:

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta

  1. Boil the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Garlic Cream Sauce

  1. Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Make a Roux: Sprinkle the flour over the garlic and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the flour cooks and forms a smooth paste.
  3. Add Milk and Cream: Gradually pour in the milk and cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook the mixture for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  4. Season the Sauce: Stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning (if using). Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine and Serve

  1. Toss the Pasta: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
  2. Garnish: Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
