Ingredients

Scale

For the Pancakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar added)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Food coloring (orange, black, or any spooky color you like)

For Toppings:

  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles (Halloween-themed)
  • Fresh fruit (such as bananas or strawberries)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until well combined.

Step 2: Combine Ingredients

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Step 3: Add Food Coloring

  • Divide the batter into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl. Mix until you achieve your desired color.

Step 4: Heat the Griddle

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or cooking spray.

Step 5: Cook the Pancakes

  • Pour about 1/4 cup of pancake batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface.
  • Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Step 6: Assemble and Serve

  • Stack the pancakes on a plate, and add your favorite toppings. Get creative with whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate chips to make them extra festive!
