  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup (optional, for shine)

For Decoration:

  • Black decorating gel (for cat faces and details)
  • Candy eyes or white chocolate chips (for the eyes)
  • Black licorice (for the whiskers and mouth)
  • Candy corn or orange and black sprinkles (optional, for added decoration)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a doughnut pan or spray it with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Prepare the Doughnut Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
    • In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
    • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fill the Doughnut Pan:
    • Spoon the batter into the prepared doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
    • Smooth the tops with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a doughnut comes out clean.
    • Allow the doughnuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the Chocolate Glaze:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
    • If using, stir in the light corn syrup for extra shine.
  • Glaze the Doughnuts:
    • Dip the tops of the cooled doughnuts into the chocolate glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Place the glazed doughnuts back on the wire rack to set.
  • Decorate the Black Cats:
    • Once the glaze is set, use black decorating gel to pipe cat faces onto each doughnut.
    • Attach candy eyes or white chocolate chips for the eyes.
    • Use black licorice to create whiskers and a mouth.
    • Optionally, add candy corn or sprinkles for extra decoration.
  • Serve:
    • Enjoy your Halloween Black Cat Doughnuts as a spooky and delicious treat!
