For the Doughnuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Spider Web Decoration:

  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • Black decorating icing (for the spider design)
  • Plastic spiders (for decoration, optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a doughnut pan with cooking spray.
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, mix the sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fill the Doughnut Pan:
    • Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Fill each doughnut cavity about 2/3 full.
  • Bake the Doughnuts:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the Chocolate Glaze:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
  • Glaze the Doughnuts:
    • Dip the top of each cooled doughnut into the chocolate glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Place them back on the wire rack.
  • Create the Spider Web:
    • Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave or a double boiler. Transfer to a piping bag and pipe a spiral onto each glazed doughnut. Use a toothpick to drag lines outward from the center to create a spider web effect.
  • Decorate:
    • Use black decorating icing to add small spiders or other designs on top of the doughnuts. Optionally, place plastic spiders on top for added decoration.
  • Serve:
    • Display your Halloween Chocolate Spider Web Doughnuts on a platter and enjoy!
