4 slices of thick bread (sourdough, rustic white, or your favorite type)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
2 medium tomatoes, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the oven rack in the middle position.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread
Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. If desired, sprinkle with garlic powder for extra flavor.
Place the buttered side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 3: Add Cheese and Tomatoes
Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously on top of the unbuttered side of each bread slice.
Arrange the tomato slices on top of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Bake the Grilled Cheese
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve
Remove the grilled cheese from the oven. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve immediately.
