Ingredients

Scale

To make your Blackened Shrimp, gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp:

  1. Peel and Devein the Shrimp: If you haven’t already, peel the shrimp and remove the veins. Rinse and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Prepare the Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Season the Shrimp:

  1. Coat the Shrimp: Place the shrimp in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil or melted butter. Toss the shrimp to coat evenly.
  2. Add the Seasoning: Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the shrimp, ensuring each piece is well coated with the spices. Set aside for 5 minutes to let the flavors marinate.

Cook the Shrimp:

  1. Heat the Skillet: Heat a large cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat. Let the pan get very hot before adding the shrimp.
  2. Sear the Shrimp: Add the seasoned shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque with a slightly crispy, blackened crust. Be careful not to overcook.
  3. Remove and Serve: Once the shrimp are cooked, transfer them to a plate. Serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges and a sprinkle of cilantro or parsley if desired.
