These golden-brown, crunchy bites are filled with a rich and creamy cream cheese mixture, often paired with a savory filling like garlic, green onions, or even crab. Whether you’re making them for a party, a cozy night in, or as a snack, cream cheese wontons are always a crowd-pleaser. Their crispy exterior and smooth, creamy center make them irresistible, and they pair wonderfully with dipping sauces like sweet and sour or soy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

To make Cream Cheese Wontons, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1216 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Filling:

  1. Mix the Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped green onions, soy sauce, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until smooth and well combined. Taste the filling and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Assemble the Wontons:

  1. Prepare the Wonton Wrappers: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface, placing one wrapper at a time with one corner pointing toward you, forming a diamond shape.
  2. Fill the Wontons: Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each wrapper.
  3. Seal the Wontons: Dip your finger into the beaten egg and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Fold the corners over the filling to form a triangle or an envelope shape, pinching the edges tightly to seal.

Fry the Wontons:

  1. Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat for frying. The oil should be hot but not smoking, about 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry the Wontons: Carefully drop the sealed wontons into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain the Wontons: Use a slotted spoon to remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve the Wontons:

  1. Serve Hot: Serve the cream cheese wontons immediately while they’re still hot and crispy. Pair with sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping, if desired.
