Ingredients

Scale

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Hot Honey Glaze:

  • ½ cup honey
  • 23 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp:

  1. Season the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels, then season with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Set Up Dredging Station: Place flour in one shallow dish, pour buttermilk into a second dish, and panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.

Coat the Shrimp:

  1. Dredge the Shrimp: Coat each shrimp in flour, dip into buttermilk, and then press into the panko breadcrumbs to coat completely.
  2. Set Aside: Place the coated shrimp on a plate or baking sheet and repeat with the remaining shrimp.

Fry the Shrimp:

  1. Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry in Batches: Carefully add the shrimp to the hot oil, frying in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain: Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Hot Honey Glaze:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, butter, red pepper flakes (if using), and apple cider vinegar.
  2. Simmer: Heat over medium heat, stirring until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.

Serve:

  1. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle the hot honey glaze over the fried shrimp or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.
