Ingredients

Scale

To make Pink Sauce Pasta, you’ll need:

  • 12 oz pasta (penne, fettuccine, or spaghetti)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for added spice)
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta:

  1. Boil the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions, typically 9-11 minutes for al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta, reserving a cup of pasta water for later.

Prepare the Pink Sauce:

  1. Sauté the Onion and Garlic: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  3. Add the Cream and Cheese: Stir in the heavy cream, followed by the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  4. Season the Sauce: Add the dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to taste. If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes. Continue to simmer the sauce for another 5 minutes to thicken it slightly.

Combine the Pasta and Sauce:

  1. Toss the Pasta: Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

Serve:

  1. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the pasta to serving plates and garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Serve immediately for a delicious, comforting meal.
