Ingredients

Scale

For Plum Dumplings with Ricotta, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1012 ripe plums (pitted and halved)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for the filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for the dough)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for the dough)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • ½ cup water (or as needed for dough consistency)
  • Cinnamon sugar or honey for serving
  • Fresh mint for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Filling:

  1. Mix the Ricotta Filling: In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 tablespoon sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well-combined. Set aside.

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the egg, melted butter, and enough water to the dry ingredients to form a soft dough. You may need to adjust the amount of water slightly to get the right consistency, but the dough should be slightly sticky.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll Out the Dough: Roll the dough out into a large sheet, about ¼ inch thick. Use a round cutter (a glass or a cookie cutter works) to cut the dough into circles, large enough to wrap around the plums.

Assemble the Dumplings:

  1. Fill the Dumplings: Place a spoonful of the ricotta mixture in the center of each dough circle. Place a plum half on top of the ricotta, then carefully fold the dough around the plum and pinch the edges to seal.
  2. Boil the Dumplings: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the water and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon.

Serve:

  1. Garnish and Serve: Once the dumplings are cooked, transfer them to serving plates. Dust with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with honey. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired for a touch of color and freshness.
