Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying, if making fried donuts)

For the Vanilla Glaze:

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Toppings:

  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • Colored sugar
  • Chocolate chips
  • Edible glitter

Instructions

Prepare the Donut Batter:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon (if using).
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, whole milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to avoid dense donuts.

Shape the Donuts:

  1. Prepare the Donut Pan: If using a donut pan, lightly grease it with non-stick spray or brush with a bit of melted butter. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fill the Donut Pan: Spoon the donut batter into the heart-shaped cavities of the donut pan, filling them about 2/3 full.
  3. Bake the Donuts: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Vanilla Glaze:

  1. Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  2. Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts have cooled, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing the excess glaze to drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack to let the glaze set.

Add Optional Toppings:

  1. Decorate: While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles, colored sugar, chocolate chips, or edible glitter for extra flair.
